I opened the Bible and read about the Hebrew prophet Daniel in Babylon. Instead of worshiping the king, he worshiped God, so the king\u2019s soldiers threw him into a lions\u2019 den.
\u6211\u7ffb\u5f00\u300a\u5723\u7ecf\u300b\uff0c\u8bfb\u5230\u4e86\u5e0c\u4f2f\u6765\u5148\u77e5\u4f46\u4ee5\u7406\u5728\u5df4\u6bd4\u4f26\u7684\u6545\u4e8b\u3002\u4ed6\u4e0d\u5d07\u62dc\u56fd\u738b\uff0c\u5374\u5d07\u62dc\u4e0a\u5e1d\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u56fd\u738b\u7684\u58eb\u5175\u628a\u4ed6\u6254\u8fdb\u4e86\u72ee\u5b50\u5751\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Certain death. But God sent an angel to protect him, and he emerged unscathed.
\u80af\u5b9a\u662f\u5fc5\u6b7b\u65e0\u7591\u7684\u3002\u4f46\u4e0a\u5e1d\u6d3e\u4e86\u4e00\u4e2a\u5929\u4f7f\u6765\u4fdd\u62a4\u4ed6\uff0c\u4ed6\u6beb\u53d1\u65e0\u635f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daniel\u2019s friends\u2014Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego\u2014refused to bow to a golden statue, so the king\u2019s soldiers threw them into a fiery furnace.
\u4f46\u4ee5\u7406\u7684\u670b\u53cb\u6c99\u5f97\u62c9\uff0c\u8fc8\u6c99\u8d6b\u548c\u4e9a\u4f2f\u5c3c\u6b4c\u62d2\u7edd\u5411\u91d1\u50cf\u8dea\u62dc\uff0c\u4e8e\u662f\u56fd\u738b\u7684\u58eb\u5175\u628a\u4ed6\u4eec\u6254\u8fdb\u4e86\u70c8\u706b\u7a91\u4e2d\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No one could survive. The heat was so great it even killed the soldiers. But when the king looked in, he saw not just three men but four. And the king understood: An angel had come to protect the friends. He ordered them released, and they came out unharmed.

And every Jewish child hears a certain legend about Abraham, the father of the Jews and Muslims, though you won\u2019t find this in the Bible.
\u6bcf\u4e2a\u72b9\u592a\u5b69\u5b50\u90fd\u542c\u8fc7\u4e00\u4e2a\u5173\u4e8e\u4e9a\u4f2f\u62c9\u7f55\u7684\u4f20\u8bf4\uff0c\u4ed6\u662f\u72b9\u592a\u4eba\u548c\u7a46\u65af\u6797\u4e4b\u7236\uff0c\u5c3d\u7ba1\u4f60\u5728\u300a\u5723\u7ecf\u300b\u91cc\u627e\u4e0d\u5230\u8fd9\u4e2a\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abraham\u2019s father, so it goes, made and sold idols for a living. But young Abraham knew better. He went to his father\u2019s shop one day and smashed all the idols to pieces.
\u636e\u8bf4\uff0c\u4e9a\u4f2f\u62c9\u7f55\u7684\u7236\u4eb2\u4ee5\u5236\u9020\u548c\u51fa\u552e\u5723\u50cf\u4e3a\u751f\u3002\u4f46\u5e74\u8f7b\u7684\u4e9a\u4f2f\u62c9\u7f55\u66f4\u6e05\u695a\u3002\u4e00\u5929\uff0c\u4ed6\u53bb\u4e86\u4ed6\u7236\u4eb2\u7684\u5546\u5e97\uff0c\u628a\u6240\u6709\u7684\u5723\u50cf\u90fd\u6253\u788e\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat have you done!\u201d shouted his father.
\u201c\u4f60\u90fd\u505a\u4e86\u4ec0\u4e48\uff01\u201d\u4ed6\u7684\u7236\u4eb2\u558a\u9053\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut Father,\u201d said Abraham, \u201cif these idols are gods, why couldn\u2019t they stop me?\u201d
\u201c\u4f46\u662f\u7236\u4eb2\uff0c\u201d\u4e9a\u4f2f\u62c9\u7f55\u8bf4\uff0c\u201c\u5982\u679c\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5076\u50cf\u662f\u795e\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u4e3a\u4ec0\u4e48\u4e0d\u80fd\u963b\u6b62\u6211\uff1f\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyway, I had nothing to worry about. Who would ever ask me to bow before a man or a statue? Only Catholics did that.
\u4e0d\u7ba1\u600e\u6837\uff0c\u6211\u6ca1\u4ec0\u4e48\u597d\u62c5\u5fc3\u7684\u3002\u8c01\u4f1a\u8981\u6c42\u6211\u5728\u4e00\u4e2a\u4eba\u6216\u4e00\u5ea7\u96d5\u50cf\u524d\u9876\u62dc\u5462\uff1f\u53ea\u6709\u5929\u4e3b\u6559\u5f92\u624d\u4f1a\u8fd9\u4e48\u505a\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 1966, at the age of twenty-nine, I took up Krishna Consciousness under the guidance of my future spiritual master Srila Prabhupada.
1966 \u5e74\uff0c\u5728\u6211 29 \u5c81\u7684\u65f6\u5019\uff0c\u5728\u6211\u672a\u6765\u7684\u7075\u6027\u5bfc\u5e08\u65bd\u745e\u62c9\u00b7\u5e15\u5e03\u5e15\u5fb7\u7684\u6307\u5bfc\u4e0b\uff0c\u6211\u5f00\u59cb\u5b66\u4e60\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u77e5\u89c9\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life had changed me. I no longer cared\u00a0 about the prophets or the Bible. But after some weeks, the other followers started bowing whenever Prabhupada came into the room.
\u751f\u6d3b\u6539\u53d8\u4e86\u6211\u3002\u6211\u4e0d\u518d\u5173\u5fc3\u5148\u77e5\u6216\u8005\u300a\u5723\u7ecf\u300b\u3002\u4f46\u662f\u51e0\u4e2a\u661f\u671f\u540e\uff0c\u6bcf\u5f53\u5e15\u5e03\u5e15\u5fb7\u8d70\u8fdb\u623f\u95f4\u65f6\uff0c\u5176\u4ed6\u8ffd\u968f\u8005\u5c31\u4f1a\u5f00\u59cb\u9876\u62dc\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But not me. Nothing to do with Judaism though. More like New-Yorkism. Orientals bowed. New Yorkers didn\u2019t\u2026 except Catholics. And even Catholics didn\u2019t really bow, you know. They just got down one one knee for a second.
\u4f46\u6211\u6ca1\u6709\u3002\u4e0d\u8fc7\u548c\u72b9\u592a\u6559\u65e0\u5173\u3002\u66f4\u50cf\u7ebd\u7ea6\u4e3b\u4e49\u3002\u4e1c\u65b9\u4eba\u97a0\u8eac\u3002\u7ebd\u7ea6\u4eba\u4e0d\u2026\u9664\u4e86\u5929\u4e3b\u6559\u5f92\u3002\u4f60\u77e5\u9053\uff0c\u5373\u4fbf\u5929\u4e3b\u6559\u5f92\u4e5f\u6ca1\u6709\u771f\u6b63\u8dea\u62dc\u3002\u4ed6\u4eec\u53ea\u662f\u5355\u819d\u4e0b\u8dea\u4e86\u4e00\u79d2\u949f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My reluctance changed on the night of my initiation. As I kneeled before Prabhupada, he motioned for me to bow. And I had to. So I touched my forehead to the floor.
\u5728\u6211\u542f\u8fea\u7684\u90a3\u4e2a\u665a\u4e0a\uff0c\u6211\u7684\u4e0d\u60c5\u613f\u6539\u53d8\u4e86\u3002\u5f53\u6211\u8dea\u5728\u5e15\u5e03\u5e15\u5fb7\u9762\u524d\u65f6\uff0c\u4ed6\u793a\u610f\u6211\u9876\u62dc\u3002\u6211\u4e0d\u5f97\u4e0d\u8fd9\u4e48\u505a\u3002\u6240\u4ee5\u6211\u7528\u989d\u5934\u78b0\u4e86\u78b0\u5730\u677f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Worse yet, \u00a0I found out that devotees of Krishna bowed before statues. Now that indeed brought back visions of fiery furnaces and lions\u2019 dens.
\u66f4\u7cdf\u7cd5\u7684\u662f\uff0c\u6211\u53d1\u73b0\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u7684\u5949\u732e\u8005\u5728\u96d5\u50cf\u524d\u9876\u62dc\u3002\u8fd9\u786e\u5b9e\u4f7f\u6211\u60f3\u8d77\u4e86\u70c8\u706b\u7a91\u548c\u72ee\u5b50\u7a74\u7684\u666f\u8c61\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prabhupada refused to call them statues, though. He called them deities. A statue, he said, had no life, just a dead piece of stone.
\u7136\u800c\uff0c\u5e15\u5e03\u5e15\u5fb7\u5374\u62d2\u7edd\u79f0\u4ed6\u4eec\u4e3a\u96d5\u50cf\u3002\u4ed6\u79f0\u4ed6\u4eec\u4e3a deity\uff08\u795e\u50cf\uff09\u3002\u4ed6\u8bf4\uff0c\u96d5\u50cf\u6ca1\u6709\u751f\u547d\uff0c\u53ea\u662f\u4e00\u5757\u6b7b\u77f3\u5934\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By calling them\u00a0 deities, Prabhupada stretched the dictionary meaning a bit, but no one ever brought that up because English doesn\u2019t have the right word.
\u901a\u8fc7\u79f0\u4ed6\u4eec\u4e3a\u795e\u50cf\uff0c\u5e15\u5e03\u5e15\u5fb7\u7a0d\u5fae\u6269\u5c55\u4e86\u5b57\u5178\u7684\u610f\u601d\uff0c\u4f46\u6ca1\u6709\u4eba\u63d0\u51fa\u8fd9\u4e00\u70b9\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u82f1\u8bed\u4e2d\u6ca1\u6709\u5408\u9002\u7684\u8bcd\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Statue? Deity? Why the difference?
\u96d5\u50cf\uff1f\u795e\u50cf\uff1f\u6709\u4ec0\u4e48\u533a\u522b\uff1f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because the deity lives and feels.
\u56e0\u4e3a\u795e\u50cf\u662f\u6d3b\u7684\uff0c\u662f\u6709\u611f\u89c9\u7684\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Catholics may call them statues, but their church has many stories of\u00a0 the \u201cstatues\u201d \u00a0of Mary shedding tears and Jesus bleeding from where the soldiers wounded him on the cross. And I have seen photos.
\u5929\u4e3b\u6559\u5f92\u53ef\u80fd\u79f0\u4ed6\u4eec\u4e3a\u96d5\u50cf\uff0c\u4f46\u4ed6\u4eec\u7684\u6559\u5802\u6709\u8bb8\u591a\u5173\u4e8e\u739b\u5229\u4e9a\u6d41\u6cea\u548c\u8036\u7a23\u5728\u5341\u5b57\u67b6\u4e0a\u88ab\u58eb\u5175\u6253\u4f24\u800c\u6d41\u8840\u7684\u201c\u96d5\u50cf\u201d\u7684\u6545\u4e8b\u3002\u6211\u4e5f\u770b\u8fc7\u7167\u7247\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cIf you can talk, you can walk,\u201d said the brahmana. \u201cAnd I know you are not a statue. You are directly [Krishna] the son of King Nanda.\u201d
\u201c\u5982\u679c\u4f60\u80fd\u8bf4\u8bdd\uff0c\u4f60\u5c31\u80fd\u8d70\u8def\uff0c\u201d\u8fd9\u4e2a\u5e03\u8339\u963f\u739b\u7eb3\u8bf4\u3002\u201c\u800c\u4e14\u6211\u77e5\u9053\u4f60\u4e0d\u662f\u96d5\u50cf\u3002\u4f60\u5c31\u662f[\u594e\u5e08\u90a3]\u5357\u8fbe\u738b\u7684\u513f\u5b50\u3002\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So the deity agreed and walked across India with the brahmana. His mere presence would\u00a0 bear witness to an agreement. And\u00a0 everyone knew that the deity\u2014too heavy to carry\u2014 had walked.
\u4e8e\u662f\u795e\u50cf\u540c\u610f\u4e86\uff0c\u5e76\u548c\u5e03\u8339\u963f\u739b\u7eb3\u4e00\u8d77\u7a7f\u8d8a\u4e86\u5370\u5ea6\u3002\u7942\u7684\u51fa\u73b0\u8db3\u4ee5\u8bc1\u660e\u4e86\u7942\u662f\u8fd9\u4e2a\u534f\u8bae\u7684\u89c1\u8bc1\u4eba\u3002\u6bcf\u4e2a\u4eba\u90fd\u660e\u767d\u4e86\u2014\u2014\u795e\u50cf\u8d70\u8def\u4e86\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u8fd9\u4e48\u91cd\u6ca1\u6709\u4eba\u53ef\u4ee5\u5e26\u4ed6\u6765\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And if you ever go to Orissa in India\u2019s east, you can visit this deity. His name is Saksi Gopal (\u2018Krishna the Witness\u2019).
\u5982\u679c\u4f60\u53bb\u5370\u5ea6\u4e1c\u90e8\u7684\u5965\u745e\u8428\u90a6\uff0c\u4f60\u53ef\u4ee5\u62dc\u8bbf\u8fd9\u5c0a\u795e\u50cf\u3002\u7942\u7684\u540d\u5b57\u662f Saksi Gopal\uff08\u201c\u89c1\u8bc1\u8005\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u201d\uff09\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Photos also offer proof.\u00a0 On occasion, devotees have shown me photos taken a year apart of one deity or another. And the photos always showed the same thing: the deity had grown more robust, the skin tone had deepened, the expression had changed.
\u7167\u7247\u4e5f\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u8bc1\u636e\u3002\u6709\u65f6\uff0c\u5949\u732e\u8005\u4f1a\u7ed9\u6211\u770b\u76f8\u9694\u4e00\u5e74\u62cd\u6444\u7684\u67d0\u4e2a\u795e\u50cf\u7684\u7167\u7247\u3002\u800c\u8fd9\u4e9b\u7167\u7247\u603b\u662f\u663e\u793a\u540c\u6837\u7684\u4e8b\u60c5\uff1a\u795e\u50cf\u53d8\u5f97\u66f4\u5065\u58ee\u4e86\uff0c\u80a4\u8272\u52a0\u6df1\u4e86\uff0c\u8868\u60c5\u4e5f\u6539\u53d8\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But something that looks like a statue and feels cold to the touch like a statue, something that, like a statue, never moves\u2014how can it have life?
\u4f46\u662f\u4e00\u4e2a\u770b\u8d77\u6765\u50cf\u96d5\u50cf\uff0c\u6478\u8d77\u6765\u53c8\u50cf\u96d5\u50cf\u4e00\u6837\u51b0\u51b7\u7684\u4e1c\u897f\uff0c\u4e00\u4e2a\u50cf\u96d5\u50cf\u4e00\u6837\u6c38\u8fdc\u4e0d\u4f1a\u52a8\u7684\u4e1c\u897f\u2014\u2014\u5b83\u600e\u4e48\u4f1a\u6709\u751f\u547d\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All right. To begin with, we often call Krishna absolute. But what does that mean?
\u597d\u5427\u3002\u9996\u5148\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u7ecf\u5e38\u79f0\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u4e3a\u7edd\u5bf9\u7684\u3002\u4f46\u8fd9\u662f\u4ec0\u4e48\u610f\u601d\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It means that every part of Krishna\u2019s body has all of Krishna\u2019s power. Krishna can see with his hand, right? If not, how could we call him\u00a0 God?
\u610f\u601d\u5c31\u662f\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u8eab\u4f53\u7684\u6bcf\u4e00\u90e8\u5206\u90fd\u62e5\u6709\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u7684\u5168\u90e8\u529b\u91cf\u3002\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u80fd\u7528\u624b\u770b\uff0c\u5bf9\u5427\uff1f\u5982\u679c\u4e0d\u80fd\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u600e\u4e48\u80fd\u79f0\u7942\u4e3a\u4e0a\u5e1d\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Krishna impregnates the goddess Maya just by looking at her. And when the devotee asks Krishna to accept a plate of food, Krishna eats it just by hearing the devotee\u2019s words of devotion.\u00a0 And who can say God cannot?
\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u4ec5\u4ec5\u901a\u8fc7\u770b\u5973\u795e\u739b\u96c5\u5c31\u4f7f\u5979\u53d7\u5b55\u3002\u5f53\u5949\u732e\u8005\u8981\u6c42\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u63a5\u53d7\u4e00\u76d8\u98df\u7269\u65f6\uff0c\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u4ec5\u4ec5\u901a\u8fc7\u542c\u5230\u5949\u732e\u8005\u5949\u7231\u7684\u8bdd\u8bed\u5c31\u628a\u5b83\u5403\u6389\u4e86\u3002\u800c\u8c01\u80fd\u8bf4\u4e0a\u5e1d\u4e0d\u80fd\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And like the parts of Krishna\u2019s body, his name also has all the power of the whole Krishna.\u00a0\u00a0 Thus the devotee constantly sings Krishna\u2019s name or repeats it on a string of beads as a mantra. And feels ever-increasing pleasure.
\u5c31\u50cf\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u8eab\u4f53\u7684\u5404\u4e2a\u90e8\u5206\u4e00\u6837\uff0c\u7942\u7684\u540d\u5b57\u4e5f\u62e5\u6709\u6574\u4e2a\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u7684\u5168\u90e8\u529b\u91cf\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\u5949\u732e\u8005\u4e0d\u65ad\u5730\u5531\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u7684\u540d\u5b57\uff0c\u6216\u8005\u5728\u4e00\u4e32\u5ff5\u73e0\u4e0a\u4f5c\u4e3a\u66fc\u9640\u7f57\u91cd\u590d\u5b83\u3002\u5e76\u611f\u53d7\u5230\u8d8a\u6765\u8d8a\u591a\u7684\u5feb\u4e50\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n

\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u7684\u5f62\u4f53\u4e5f\u662f\u5982\u6b64\uff0c\u5c3d\u7ba1\u5b83\u53ef\u80fd\u770b\u8d77\u6765\u50cf\u4e00\u5e45\u666e\u901a\u7684\u7167\u7247\u6216\u96d5\u50cf\u3002\u4f46\u662f\u5949\u732e\u8005\u53ef\u4ee5\u770b\u5230\u4e0d\u540c\u4e4b\u5904\u3002\u4e3a\u4ec0\u4e48\uff1f\u56e0\u4e3a\u4ed6\u77e5\u9053\u8fd9\u4e2a\u79d8\u5bc6\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A secret? Yes. Devotion makes the difference.

\n\u201cI worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is Syamasundara, Krishna Himself with inconceivable innumerable attributes, whom the pure devotees see in their heart of hearts with the eye of devotion tinged with the salve of love. (Sri Brahma Samhita 5.38)
\u201c\u6211\u5d07\u62dc\u539f\u59cb\u7684\u4e3b\u52fe\u6587\u8fbe\uff0c\u7942\u662f\u590f\u739b\u900a\u8fbe\u5c14\uff0c\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u672c\u4eba\uff0c\u5177\u6709\u4e0d\u53ef\u601d\u8bae\u7684\u65e0\u6570\u54c1\u8d28\uff0c\u7eaf\u7cb9\u7684\u5949\u732e\u8005\u5728\u4ed6\u4eec\u7684\u5185\u5fc3\u6df1\u5904\u7528\u5e26\u7740\u7231\u7684\u836f\u818f\u7684\u5949\u732e\u4e4b\u773c\u770b\u5230\u7942\u3002(\u300a\u5e03\u8339\u963f\u739b\u00b7\u8428\u871c\u5854\u300b 5.38)\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nWhen Krishna walked the face of the earth, many people saw him, but only the devotees saw his glory.
\u5f53\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u5728\u5730\u7403\u4e0a\u884c\u8d70\u65f6\uff0c\u8bb8\u591a\u4eba\u770b\u5230\u4e86\u7942\uff0c\u4f46\u53ea\u6709\u5949\u732e\u8005\u770b\u5230\u4e86\u7942\u7684\u8363\u8000\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\nWhy?\u00a0 Yes. Devotion.
\u4e3a\u4ec0\u4e48\uff1f\u4f60\u77e5\u9053\u3002\u662f\u5949\u7231\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\nAnyone with eyes can see God. Just have to look at a picture of Krishna. The seeing is easy. But Knowing what you see? That comes from Krishna. Krishna reciprocates. Throw him the ball, and he will throw it back to you.
\u4efb\u4f55\u6709\u773c\u775b\u7684\u4eba\u90fd\u80fd\u770b\u89c1\u4e0a\u5e1d\u3002\u53ea\u8981\u770b\u770b\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u7684\u7167\u7247\u3002\u770b\u5f88\u5bb9\u6613\u3002\u4f46\u662f\u77e5\u9053\u4f60\u770b\u5230\u4e86\u4ec0\u4e48\u5417\uff1f\u594e\u5e08\u90a3\u662f\u6295\u6843\u62a5\u674e\u7684\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\u201cIf one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it.
\u201c\u4ee5\u7231\u548c\u5949\u732e\u4e4b\u5fc3\uff0c\u65e0\u8bba\u5411\u6211\u4f9b\u5949\u4e00\u7247\u53f6\uff0c\u4e00\u6735\u82b1\uff0c\u4e00\u4e2a\u6c34\u679c\uff0c\u8fd8\u662f\u4e00\u676f\u6c34\uff0c\u6211\u90fd\u63a5\u53d7\u3002<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n\nWhatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform\u2014do that, O son of Kunti, as an offering to Me.
